Collector's notes: No TV commercial is more famous and mythic than Ridley Scott's "1984", Apple's TV ad for the newly introduced Macintosh personal computer. Based on George Orwell's acclaimed 1949 novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four", which is set in a frightening dystopian society ruled by "Big Brother" in the then futuristic year of 1984. The first (and last) time this advert aired on national television was on January 22, 1984 during Super Bowl XVIII.
